Proverbs Study days 19 and 20

We are going to both of these together. Seems to be my norm on Friday and Saturday.

We are going to begin just by reading Proverbs chapter 7.
In your bible mark the words, (my son, adulteress, wisdom, heart, and harlot)
Pro 7:1 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you;
Pro 7:2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
Pro 7:3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Pro 7:4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call insight your intimate friend,
Pro 7:5 to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.
Pro 7:6 For at the window of my house I have looked out through my lattice,
Pro 7:7 and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense,
Pro 7:8 passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house
Pro 7:9 in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness.
Pro 7:10 And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.
Pro 7:11 She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home;
Pro 7:12 now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait.
Pro 7:13 She seizes him and kisses him, and with bold face she says to him,
Pro 7:14 "I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows;
Pro 7:15 so now I have come out to meet you, to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.
Pro 7:16 I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egyptian linen;
Pro 7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Pro 7:18 Come, let us take our fill of love till morning; let us delight ourselves with love.
Pro 7:19 For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey;
Pro 7:20 he took a bag of money with him; at full moon he will come home."
Pro 7:21 With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him.
Pro 7:22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast
Pro 7:23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.
Pro 7:24 And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.
Pro 7:25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths,
Pro 7:26 for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng.
Pro 7:27 Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

I want to add a few extra verses that will tie into the study.
2Ti 2:22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

Matthew Henry breaks down the chapter as follows:
In this chapter we have, I. A general exhortation to get our minds principled and governed by the world of God, as a sovereign antidote against this sin (Pro_7:1-5). II. A particular representation of the great danger which unwary young men are in of being inveigled into this snare (v. 6-23). III. A serious caution inferred thence, in the close, to take heed of all approaches towards this sin (Pro_7:24-27). We should all pray, “Lord, lead us not into this temptation.”

Now for my thoughts:
Lets remember that Solomon is still instructing young men against the sins of the flesh. I believe that fleshly lusts is probably one of the biggest sins in the world today. We watch it in on TV, we see it in magazines, product advertisement, the people walking down the street, it surrounds us. We don't even want to get into the billions of dollars made in the Porn industry. We live in a world where girls are getting plastic surgery of all types before they even turn 18. Why do we do those things? So we can be attractive. I would think fleshly lusts are even more so in today's time than it was back then. This is a very important thing to discuss, not only for ourselves, but for our spouses, and for our kids. Kids are sending naked pics of themselves to their boyfriends and girlfriends via the cell phone. When are we going to do what Solomon is doing right now, when are we going to start teaching our kids about the sins of the flesh.

You flirt with sin, and eventually you will give into it. You may think it's OK to go around it, to see what it's like, and eventually that sin will find it's way into your life. Then is starts taunting you, you see it everywhere you go, it looks so inviting. That is when wisdom and understanding comes to play. We have to use wisdom to know what to stay away from.

IN Job 28:28 And he said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'"

We are going to be enticed, it is the fear of the Lord that keeps us from giving in, and when we turn away from it, then we know we have the understanding in our heart. The understanding that it is wrong, and sometimes, no matter how enticing it may seem, you just have to know that you are suppose to walk away.

For if you fall into the snares of adultery the price you pay will be great.
