Proverbs Study week 4 day 5

Read Proverbs 9:1-6 List what wisdom has done and the message she calls out.
Pro 9:1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.
Pro 9:2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
Pro 9:3 She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,
Pro 9:4 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks sense she says,
Pro 9:5 "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.
Pro 9:6 Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight."

Wisom has;
built her house
hewn her seven pillars
slaughtered her beasts
mixed her wine
set her table
sent our her young women to call from the highest places in the town

Wisdom is calling out to the simple, so they can leave their simple ways and gain knowledge and understanding. Even the simplest of people can gain wisdom.

Now read verses 13-18. List what you learn about the woman of folly and her message.
Pro 9:13 The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing.
Pro 9:14 She sits at the door of her house; she takes a seat on the highest places of the town,
Pro 9:15 calling to those who pass by, who are going straight on their way,
Pro 9:16 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" And to him who lacks sense she says,
Pro 9:17 "Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant."
Pro 9:18 But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

The woman of folly is very seductive and does not have wisdom. She is searching for naive young men without wisdrom and knowledge. She is convincing him that it is good. Only they do not know where what she has done to others who have followed in that same path.

How does the woman of folly relate to the adulteress and harlot we marked before>
She is seductive, and convincing. She preys on the naive and those lacking wisdom and knowledge.

Note the important words in the two invitaions and the different results from listening to these words.
They are both calling out to the simple man. Only one wants to give the simple man knowledge and wisdom. The wants the simple man because he lacks wisdom and that makes it easy for her to seduce him.

Proverbs Study Week Four Days 3 and 4

Send me an email if you want to continue to add a children's devotion. angieduke@hotmail.com. I wasn't sure how many of you reading this needed a kids devotion. The ice is melted. Thank God. I'm glad we were all able to get back to work and school safely. Don't forget about Super Sunday this Sunday at 3pm. Come early to setup, and stay after service for the Super Bowl Party. It is going to be tons of fun.

Day 3 of Week 4
We were suppose to wrap up chapter 8, studying 22-36.We are suppose to compare the relationship between The Lord and Wisdom. As you have seen, true wisdom comes from the lord. The world's wisdom can never compare to the Lords wisdom. Go ahead and write down what you learn from these verses.

Basically the Lord had wisdom from the beginnign of time. In everything he did, he had wisdom.
A quote from Matthew Henry
. An exhortation to hear and obey the voice of Wisdom, to attend and comply with the good instructions that the word of God gives us, and in them to discern the voice of Christ, as the sheep know the shepherd's voice.

We are to hear God's instruction, listen to him, like a kid learning from his parents we are to learn from God. We are not to neglect him. Stop and ask yourself, how am I neglecting God right now? Do I read my bible daily, do I pray, am I spending time with him, am I reaching out to others, am I taking time to teach my children the word of God, am I walking the walk daily? None of us are giving 100% to God. There is always more that we can do, more we need to learn, more people who need us to pray for them and be the light of Christ in their lives.

Day 4 of week 4
Read Proverbs 9 marking wisdom and understanding, and the woman of folly. Watch for pronouns refering to these characters.

Pro 9:7 Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
Pro 9:8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Pro 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. (KJV it says the knowledge of holy is understanding.)
Pro 9:11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.
Pro 9:12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

That's all we need to do today. Read and mark our bibles. Tommorrow we will study 1-6 and 13-18. Read this a couple of times. Get a good understanding of the verses before we do our study.

Proverbs Study Week Four Day 2 / added kids devotion

I wanted to add a kid devotion to my study. Every night we sit down with our children and do a short devotion. This will take about 5 to 10 minutes of your time with your kids. After your devotion, have your kids pray, then pray over your kids. I always encourage my kids to pray for their friends. We try to add a new prayer request every week.

KIDS STUDY (Searching Deep)

I always have my kids get their bibles out and read the verse. It's typically just 2 or 3 verses. If you have more than one child, try to split it up or take turns. At my house, my kids have two different bible versions, so I have them both read.

VERSE
James 2:23 Abraham...was called God's friend.

Story: Luke burst into the kitchen, opening an envelope. " We got a letter from Miguel!" (ask your kids how they think they would feel to get a letter from their best friend.
His mother smiled. "That's wonderful. What does it say?" Luke's family had decided to sponsor a needy child from another country. They'd agreed to send money each month to an organization call Compassion International. That way, the organization could feed Miguel, help him stay healthy, help educate him, and tell him about Jesus. And the best part was, Luke and Miguel were going to be pen pals!
"There's Miguel's handwriting," Luke said, "but it's in Spanish."
His mom asked, "isn't it translated into English?"
Luke flipped the letter over. "Oh yeah. Here it is." He read it. "WOW. Miguel goes to school like me, and he loves baseball too." Luke lived in Minnesota. Miguel lived in Nicaragua, which was in Central America. Using the internet, Luke and his parents had learned a lot about Nicaragua. Luke wanted to go there someday and meet Miguel in person. Meanwhile, it was cool having a friend in another country. Grabbing a pen, Luke said, "I'm gonna write back and tell Miguel all about me!"

Prayer allows you to be "pen pals" with God. Although you can't see God now, you can build a relationship with him through prayer and reading your bible. And someday, with faith in Jesus, you'll meet Jesus face to face.

Words To TREASURE:
Exodus 33:11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.

Now for our adult Study Time:

Day TWO
All we need to do today is list the claims wisdom makes in verses 1-21. Take your time and meditate on what you learn in these verses. They're so rich.

Precepts of Wisdom
1. They are proclaimed aloud
2. They are proclaimed from on high
3. They are proclaimed in the places of concourse, where multitudes are gathered together, the more the better.
4. They are proclaimed where they are most needed.
5. They are directed to the children of men.
6. They are designed to make them wise

This is really deep reading. A lot to take in, in a few short verses.

It also says that wisdom is better than jewels and all you desire cannot compare to her. .....That is a pretty strong verse. Take a minute to think about what it really means. I'm sitting here thinking of all the things I desire, I would love to go to Cozumel or Cancun, a house at least twice the size of the one I own, all my bills to be paid off, I could go on forever on this one. It says that all of those cannot compare to wisdom. So what should I truly desire more, all of these wonderful earthly things, or wisdom? Wisdom of Course.

Matthew Henry says that in verses 12-21 wisdom is Christ.

Divine wisdom gives men a level head
It gives men good hearts
It has a good influence on governing affairs
It will make all those happy, truly happy, that receive and embrace it.

That's a lot for today. We will study verse 8 some more tomorrow. There is a lot to embrace, and we have three days to embrace it.

I hope you all are having a good day. Be careful in this nasty weather. Don't drive tonight if you don't have to.

Week Four Proverbs Study

Well, we made it through three weeks. Be proud of yourselves. This is isn't as hard to do as I thought it would be. You guys keep me going. We had a great week, prayers have been answered for us this week. My brother is not moving to Tulsa, Yeah. We received our first donation for our mission trip, Yeah. I am finally well. I had a super great feel good day. I am so thankful to be feeling better. I hope you guys have great things going on in your lives as well. Please share them with us if you do. Praise reports are always encouraging.

The Call of Wisdom or of the Foolish Woman....
Food and wine are set at wisdom's table, and she calls men to forsake folly and live. But the foolish woman equally calls men to secretly partake of her stolen water and bread...and then die. Can you distinguish these voices? Will you heed the right call?

Day One of Week Four

Read Proverbs 8 and Mark (wisdom, knowledge, understanding, love, Lord, and blessing)
Take time to underline these in your bible, even though I highlight them in the study.

In this chapter, wisdom is personified, so you'll find many feminie pronouns. Loof for them so you don't miss any significant observations. Personification is a literary device that draws attention to and explains a concept in a way we can relate to. The characteristics of a person are attributed to the concept because we understand how people think and act.

Days 1-3 are focusing solely on Chapter 8. Tomorrow we will pull out some things about wisdom, and Wednesday we will talk about the relationship between the Lord and wisdom. Days 4-6 we will focus on Proverbs 9. Two chapters in 6 days, we can do it.

Pro 8:1 Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice?
Pro 8:2 On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand;
Pro 8:3 beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
Pro 8:4 "To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man.
Pro 8:5 O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense.
Pro 8:6 Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right,
Pro 8:7 for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
Pro 8:8 All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
Pro 8:9 They are all straight to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.
Pro 8:10 Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,
Pro 8:11 for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
Pro 8:12 "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.
Pro 8:13 The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.
Pro 8:14 I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength.
Pro 8:15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just;
Pro 8:16 by me princes rule, and nobles, all who govern justly.
Pro 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Pro 8:18 Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness.
Pro 8:19 My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.
Pro 8:20 I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice,
Pro 8:21 granting an inheritance to those who love me, and filling their treasuries.
Pro 8:22 "The LORD possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old.
Pro 8:23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
Pro 8:24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.
Pro 8:25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth,
Pro 8:26 before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world.
Pro 8:27 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
Pro 8:28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep,
Pro 8:29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
Pro 8:30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,
Pro 8:31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.
Pro 8:32 "And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways.
Pro 8:33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.
Pro 8:34 Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.
Pro 8:35 For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD,
Pro 8:36 but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death."

I am going to post group discussion questions tonight. Find the answers, post them if you like. I will post the group answers tomorrow night after our Fuel Cell. If you would like to come to the group discussion, it will be

Proverbs6:16-19
Read and discuss
Proverbs 5:3-6,15-20
6:16-19,23-29
7:6-27

Discuss the central teaching of Proverbs 5-7
The central teaching for these chapters was one to warn against adultery.
2. A parent imparting their wisdom to their kids
3. Chapter 6 had some other general warnings of how not to be as well

What are some of the tactics of the adulteress?
She is alluring, she lies, she seeks eagerly, she dresses to catch the eye, she knows how to persuade young naive boys, she is manipulative, beautiful,

How is a man vulnerable to these tactics?
He is vulberable because he is young and naive and does not have the wisdom to understand to stay away and what will happen if he doesn't.

How does Proverbs 6:16-19 relate to the teaching of the adulteress The things that?
God hates, are the characteristics of an adulteress

Discuss how the commandments of the father and teachings of the mother help a naive young manThis is how our ?children learn right from wrong, they need the strong commands of their father to lead and guide them. They need a father figure to impart their wisdom to them. They need a mother that is strong in the Lord that teach right from wrong as well.

How should we respond to God's instruction in these chapters?
We should listen to Gods instruction and follow it. If we don't we are going to suffer a world of consequences

Verses for thought:
Exo 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery.
Exo 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's."

Wisdom and Understanding can stop us from making these mistakes. It should be our goal to obtain wisdom and understanding to prevent making mistakes, and reaping the consequences thereafter.

Proverbs Study days 19 and 20

We are going to both of these together. Seems to be my norm on Friday and Saturday.

We are going to begin just by reading Proverbs chapter 7.
In your bible mark the words, (my son, adulteress, wisdom, heart, and harlot)
Pro 7:1 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you;
Pro 7:2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
Pro 7:3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Pro 7:4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call insight your intimate friend,
Pro 7:5 to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.
Pro 7:6 For at the window of my house I have looked out through my lattice,
Pro 7:7 and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense,
Pro 7:8 passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house
Pro 7:9 in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness.
Pro 7:10 And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.
Pro 7:11 She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home;
Pro 7:12 now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait.
Pro 7:13 She seizes him and kisses him, and with bold face she says to him,
Pro 7:14 "I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows;
Pro 7:15 so now I have come out to meet you, to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.
Pro 7:16 I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egyptian linen;
Pro 7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Pro 7:18 Come, let us take our fill of love till morning; let us delight ourselves with love.
Pro 7:19 For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey;
Pro 7:20 he took a bag of money with him; at full moon he will come home."
Pro 7:21 With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him.
Pro 7:22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast
Pro 7:23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.
Pro 7:24 And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.
Pro 7:25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths,
Pro 7:26 for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng.
Pro 7:27 Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

I want to add a few extra verses that will tie into the study.
2Ti 2:22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

Matthew Henry breaks down the chapter as follows:
In this chapter we have, I. A general exhortation to get our minds principled and governed by the world of God, as a sovereign antidote against this sin (Pro_7:1-5). II. A particular representation of the great danger which unwary young men are in of being inveigled into this snare (v. 6-23). III. A serious caution inferred thence, in the close, to take heed of all approaches towards this sin (Pro_7:24-27). We should all pray, “Lord, lead us not into this temptation.”

Now for my thoughts:
Lets remember that Solomon is still instructing young men against the sins of the flesh. I believe that fleshly lusts is probably one of the biggest sins in the world today. We watch it in on TV, we see it in magazines, product advertisement, the people walking down the street, it surrounds us. We don't even want to get into the billions of dollars made in the Porn industry. We live in a world where girls are getting plastic surgery of all types before they even turn 18. Why do we do those things? So we can be attractive. I would think fleshly lusts are even more so in today's time than it was back then. This is a very important thing to discuss, not only for ourselves, but for our spouses, and for our kids. Kids are sending naked pics of themselves to their boyfriends and girlfriends via the cell phone. When are we going to do what Solomon is doing right now, when are we going to start teaching our kids about the sins of the flesh.

You flirt with sin, and eventually you will give into it. You may think it's OK to go around it, to see what it's like, and eventually that sin will find it's way into your life. Then is starts taunting you, you see it everywhere you go, it looks so inviting. That is when wisdom and understanding comes to play. We have to use wisdom to know what to stay away from.

IN Job 28:28 And he said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'"

We are going to be enticed, it is the fear of the Lord that keeps us from giving in, and when we turn away from it, then we know we have the understanding in our heart. The understanding that it is wrong, and sometimes, no matter how enticing it may seem, you just have to know that you are suppose to walk away.

For if you fall into the snares of adultery the price you pay will be great.

God is doing awesome things

I'm taking a break tonight. I will post 2 days tomorrow. God has blessed us so much this week, we have had some great answers to prayer. We are planning a mission trip to Massachusetts this summer to help our friends with a church plant. They need help with construction work and other things, and we have been praying about going. Funds are the only set back we have, but we are believing that God is going to provide for us to go. Today we received an email from someone who wants to put some money towards our trip. I wanted to cry. We didn't ask for this money, but God laid it upon some one's heart to give it to us. It just reminded of how big our God is, and we felt as if it was God jump starting that faith inside of us, to start planning this trip and things will fall into place. (Just like Ryan said it would). It really overwhelmed our hearts, that God has provided before we have even started trying to get funding for our trip. I'm really anxious to see how this is going to fall into place, and to watch God work. It put a little fire in me, and today we started planning our trip. I want you to be in prayer for our family, and for Ryan and Christy and the church plant. They live by faith every day of every week.

Another great thing this week, didn't really happen to me, but Cindy called the other night and left a message on my phone about school stuff. After I finished my study I called her back. She answered the phone crying, her mom's feeding tube was clogged and she couldn't get in touch with anyone to get it fixed. They sent her to the pharmacy for stuff to unclog it, but didn't send her with the prescription she needed. She had just finished praying as she was driving back to her mom's to please send an angel to take care of her mom because she no longer knew what to do and then I called. I asked her why she was crying and she explained the story, and I said Cindy I think Matt knows how to do that, do you want us to come over? We went over and Matt had her fixed up in about 5 minutes. Mrs. Sue called Matt one of her many angels. God is always good. God knew what needed to happen, even when we didn't.

What I want to say, God knows all of our needs. When we can't figure it out on our own, and when we just can't think of anyone else to call, God sends someone in our direction. Never doubt what God can do in your life. I know I am not doubting what he can do in ours. I am excited to see how the next few months is going to unfold. I know to do this, I am going to have to completely rely upon God and not me.

I hope you all have a very blessed week. You can start reading Proverbs seven if you like. I will post the study tomorrow. God Bless you all.

Love In Christ
