Questions for discussion or Individual Study

Discuss the father-son relationship implied in Proverbs 3-4.
Chapter 4 is Solomon talking to his son

It is a father talking to his son, teaching him in the ways that are right and wrong.

Does it apply to women too?
Yes we do think it applies to women too. Proverbs 4:3 says that he was the only one in the sight of his mother. However the father is the head of the household and should be the biggest example, we as mother's should be an example and give instruction as well letting the men lead.

What are the benefits of acquiring wisdom?

Benefits of acquiring wisdom is protection, honor, grace, guidance, understanding, long life, your step will not be hampered, when you run you will not stumble, tree of life.

What are the qualities or characteristics of wisdom?more profitable than silver
honor
light
life for your soul

What is the relationship between the son who acquires wisdom and the Lord?
the son will fear the Lord
The Lord will give you confidence and keep your foot from being caught
the son should not despise the Lords discipline or be weary of his reproof.

Contrast the righteous and the wicked.
wicked can't sleep, righteous can sleep with ease
wicked stumbles, righteous does not
wicked will not fear the Lord the righteous will

Summarize the central teachings of these two chapters and discuss how you can remember them.
Its a plee from a father to his son begging him not to make stupid mistakes. Follow my instruction, do not follow the wicked. If you will only follow God and gain wisdom and understanding, your path will be protected.

It's instruction, do you choose to follow it, or do your choose to not to. Either way, we know what happens if we follow either road. We are given the choice, God wants us to choose wisdom and understanding, but the ways of the wicked of there to persuade us as well.

I need the daily getting before God to get understanding and wisdom.

Picturing a Father with his son on his lap, giving him wisdom. The last few verses of chapter three saying don't pass up a moment, don't tell them to come back later i will talk to you tomorrow, do it now. It's what being a good Father is about. A picture perfect relationship between a father and son.
